Family of Humanitarian Forum Indonesia (HFI) had a meeting with Embassy of Somali to discuss the current situation of Somali. As all of us have known, currently there is famine in Somali. Many people died and dying. Almost everyday 13 toddlers died and 29.000 people died on the last three months. PKPU, Dompet Dhuafa, Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Centre, Karina, and Secretariat of HFI joined in the meeting.

For following up the meeting, Team for Somali’s Response from HFI family, which is led by Tomy Hendrajati from PKPU, held a meeting at PKPU office to discuss planning from each members. Team from PKPU and Dompet Dhuafa would directly go to Somali to conduct humanitarian response, and also capture what’s going on there.

Afterwards, Secretariat of HFI together with YAKKUM, PKPU, Dompet Dhuafa, and other NGOs who conduct humanitarian response for Somali, were invited by Indonesian Ministry of Social to attend coordination meeting. The meeting aimed to monitor coordination, map the strength of each NGOs, and map what NGOs have planned for Somali. Ministry of Social Republic of Indonesia was directly led this meeting and after that the participants were joined into press conference with mass media.

Ministry of Social held a second meeting to discuss Establishment of Volunteer Unit for Humanitarian Mission for Somali. This meeting was held by Mr. Andi ZA Dulung, Directorate General of Social Protection and Guarantee. This meeting was attended by Director of Africa Directorate General of Asia Pasific and Africa Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Experts of Ministry of Social, Head of Planning Bureau Ministry of Social, Director of Organization and Family Empowerment Ministry of Social, PKPU, Dompet Dhuafa, Secretariat of HFI, and other NGOs. In this meeting, HFI conveyed that will be held Conference of Humanitarian Forum International related to response for Somali, which would be held in Nairobi, Kenya on September 26-27^th 2011. Mr. Andi ZA Dulung put an interest to be invited to it. Representatives from Indonesia that also would attend are Ahmad Juwaini (Director of Dompet Dhuafa) and Agung Notowiguno (CEO of PKPU).
